NEW DELHI:

On Friday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling on him to attend the Winter Session of Parliament and not avoid an investigation into the allegations against the Adani Group.

In a Facebook post, Gandhi wrote: “Modi ji sansad me aao, Adani par jaanch se mat ghabrao” (Modi ji, come to Parliament, don’t be afraid of an investigation into Adani).

The Congress, along with its INDIA bloc allies, has been persistent in demanding a discussion on Adani’s alleged wrongdoing, particularly in light of recent developments involving US authorities.

Earlier in the day, Opposition MPs staged a symbolic protest by wearing masks that read “Modi Adani, Bhai Bhai.” Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi participated in the demonstration, holding copies of the Constitution to emphasize their stance.

Congress MP KC Venugopal criticized the government, saying, “Today is B. R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The constitutional right is being violated for Adani’s sake. Whenever Adani’s name comes up, the government tries to divert the issue. But we will continue our protests.”

Meanwhile, the Adani Group denied the allegations made by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission. In a statement, the group called the claims against Adani Green directors “baseless.” The statement added: “The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. We will pursue all possible legal remedies.”

The Adani Group reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining “the highest standards of governance, transparency, and regulatory compliance.”

The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on November 25, has been marked by frequent disruptions and early adjournments. The session is set to continue until December 20.
